Connecting your SAMi router to the internet is generally not required or recommended. The SAMi system works fine without an internet connection and keeping your camera and iOS device off the internet maximizes security and reliability.
However, if you want to use the SAMi Internet Viewing feature with the SAMi router you must configure it as follows.
NOTE: As an alternative you can stop using the SAMi router and simply setup the SAMi camera to use your home Wi-Fi network.
NOTE: To connect your SAMi router to the internet you need to use an Ethernet wire. This will probably require locating the SAMi router near your home router and may reduce the Wi-Fi signal quality at the camera and/or monitoring location.
If you haven’t already, we strongly recommend you first add a password to the SAMi Wi-Fi network. This prevents unauthorized users from accessing your home network and/or using your internet service. Instructions are here. Make sure the camera is operating properly before proceeding.
Next plug an Ethernet wire into the yellow jack on the back of the SAMi router. Plug the other end into a “LAN” jack on your home router.
NOTE: If you had to move your SAMi router to do this check that the SAMi camera still has a strong Wi-Fi signal.
Your SAMi iPod/iPad can now reach the internet. Your SAMi3 camera can now also access the internet to upload recordings to Dropbox.
If this is all you need you can stop here. If, however, you also want to access the SAMi3 camera over the internet you need to reconfigure the router for Access Point mode.
NOTE: Access Point Mode disables the automatic IP address assignment (DHCP) on the SAMi router and instead uses the home router’s DHCP server. This means that you can no longer use the SAMi router without it being connected to another router. If you count on being able to travel with the SAMi router do not proceed.
