The SAMi App is designed for real-time motion monitoring and recording. While it does many things in the background, some features require the app to be actively open and running in the foreground in order to function properly.

Here’s what the SAMi App can—and cannot—do in the background:

✅ What Works in the Background

Even when the SAMi App is closed or running in the background:

• The SAMi Camera continues recording motion events to its internal memory (microSD card).

• Recordings are preserved on the camera and will transfer to your iOS device the next time you open the SAMi App (as long as there’s storage available on your device).

• Previously transferred recordings remain accessible in the app, even after closing it.

So even if you temporarily switch apps, receive a call, or put your phone down, the camera itself continues to record.

🚫 What Does Not Work in the Background

The following features require the SAMi App to be open and actively running (in the foreground):

• Alerts

  You will not receive alarms if the SAMi App is closed or running in the background.
  
  

• Live Monitoring

  The live video stream and motion detection visualization (red motion overlay) are only active while the app is open.
  
  

• Automatic Recording Transfers

  Recordings from the SAMi Camera only transfer to your iOS device when the app is open and connected to the camera.

🛠️ Why This Matters

SAMi is designed to keep your iOS device awake and prevent it from sleeping while the app is running, so monitoring stays uninterrupted overnight. However, if you exit the app, take a call, or open another app, the SAMi App will pause until you return.

To ensure reliable monitoring:

• Always keep the SAMi App open and active when you want to receive alerts.

• Make sure your device is plugged in overnight to avoid battery-related issues.

• Enable Guided Access Mode on your device to prevent accidental app switching.
