SAMi can trigger alarms based on a wide variety of motion types, including both rhythmic and non-rhythmic movements. The key thing to remember is that there must be visible motion for SAMi to alert you—SAMi is a motion-based monitoring system. If the human eye can see the motion, so can SAMi!
✅ Motion Types SAMi Can Detect
SAMi is effective at detecting a wide range of sustained movement, including:
Rhythmic Movements
-
Repetitive arm or leg shaking
-
Rocking motions
-
Head bobbing
-
Convulsive (tonic-clonic) movement
Non-Rhythmic Movements
-
Sudden jerks or twitches
-
Irregular or fragmented limb movements
-
Rolling or flailing in bed
-
Unusual posturing during sleep
Full-Body Motion
-
Sitting up suddenly
-
Attempting to stand
-
Crawling, scooting, or shifting positions
These motion types are most likely to trigger an alert, especially when they last for more than 15 seconds. If they last less than 15 seconds, SAMi would still be able to alert you, but you will get false alarms from other regular motions that might occur.
❌ What SAMi Can Not Detect
While SAMi is highly capable, there are some important limitations to be aware of:
-
No-motion events: SAMi cannot detect or alert you if the individual is completely still.
-
Very short movements: Extremely brief or subtle motions (under 5 seconds) may not register.
-
Audio-only activity: SAMi does not currently alert based on sound alone. This includes breathing changes, vocalizations, or crying.
- Temperature Changes: SAMi can not detect temperature changes, either in the individual or in the environment
- Heart Rate: SAMi can not detect heart rate changes
🔍 Tip: Optimizing SAMi for Your Needs
To get the best results:
-
Ensure the SAMi Camera has a clear, unobstructed view of the sleeping area.
-
Adjust the motion sensitivity settings in the SAMi App to suit your situation. Setup guides can be viewed here.
-
Test different scenarios using the Motion feature to see how SAMi responds.
