Setting up your Sami Camera + Hub takes just a few minutes. Follow the steps below to get started.
Before you begin
You'll need:
- An iPhone or iPad running iOS 15 or later
- The Sami app, downloaded from the App Store
- Your Sami Hub
- Your Sami Camera
Before starting, please turn off any VPN running on your iPhone or iPad. VPNs can prevent your device from communicating with the Sami Camera.
1. Plug in your Sami Hub
Plug the Sami Hub into a wall outlet.
The Hub creates a dedicated Wi-Fi network called SAMi-5G that your Sami Camera and iPhone or iPad will use to communicate.
Note: The SAMi-5G network does not provide internet access. If your iPhone or iPad displays a message such as "No Internet Connection" while connected to SAMi-5G, that's normal.
2. Plug in and position your Sami Camera
Plug the Sami Camera into a wall outlet in the room you want to monitor.
For guidance on camera placement, mounting options, and securing the power cord, see our How to Position and Mount Your Sami Camera guide.
Once the camera is plugged in, wait for the LED on the camera to turn green. This may take a few minutes.
A green LED means the camera has successfully connected to the Sami Hub.
3. Connect your iPhone or iPad to SAMi-5G
Once the LED on the camera turns green, on your iPhone or iPad:
- Open Settings (look for the gear icon on the home screen)
- Tap Wi-Fi
- Select SAMi-5G
- Wait until your device shows that it is connected
We recommend setting Auto-Join ON for SAMi-5G.
If your device frequently switches back to your home Wi-Fi network, we also recommend turning Auto-Join OFF for your home Wi-Fi network on the device you use with Sami.
Your iPhone or iPad should remain connected to SAMi-5G while using Sami to monitor.
4. Add your camera in the Sami app
Once you're connected to SAMi-5G:
- Open the Sami app
- Tap Add New Camera
- Follow the instructions in the app to finish adding your camera
During setup, iOS will ask Sami for several permissions.
Please make sure you allow:
- Location Services: Select Allow While Using App
- Local Network: Select Allow
Local Network access is required for Sami to communicate with your camera.
If you accidentally deny one of these permissions, you can change them later in your iPhone or iPad's Settings.
Once you can see the live camera view in the Sami app, your camera is connected.
If the camera does not connect automatically
If your camera does not connect or appear in the Sami app:
- Force quit the Sami app.
- Unplug both the Sami Hub and the Sami Camera.
- Plug the Sami Hub back in first and wait until it is fully on.
- Plug the Sami Camera back in. The camera light will start red and then turn green once connected.
- Confirm that your iPhone or iPad is connected to the SAMi-5G Wi-Fi network.
- Reopen the Sami app.
In most cases, the camera should connect automatically after a few minutes.
If the camera light does not eventually turn green, you can reset the camera using the recessed reset button and a paperclip. Allow the camera to restart and reconnect to the Sami Hub.
If you still need assistance, please submit a support ticket here.
Important Next Step: Adjust your settings for the first time
Once your camera is connected and you can see the live view, take a few minutes to configure Sami for your specific monitoring needs.
Properly adjusting your alarm, sensitivity, recording, and other settings can help reduce false alarms and ensure Sami works the way you expect.
Adjusting Your SAMi Settings For The First Time
Before your first night
Keep your device connected to SAMi-5G
Your iPhone or iPad must be connected to the SAMi-5G Wi-Fi network to communicate with the camera.
Because SAMi-5G does not provide internet access, you may want to periodically reconnect your device to an internet-connected Wi-Fi network so that iOS and the Sami app can receive software updates.
Keep the Sami app running while monitoring
The Sami app must remain running on your iPhone or iPad while you are using Sami to monitor and receive alarms.
We recommend keeping the device plugged into power overnight.
Keep the Sami app updated
We recommend enabling automatic app updates on your iPhone or iPad so you always have the latest version of the Sami app.
Settings are device-specific
Some Sami settings are stored on the iPhone or iPad you are using. If you use Sami with multiple Apple devices, make sure each device is configured the way you want it.
Important Safety Information
If you are using Sami with a young child or baby, please visit BabyMonitorSafety.org for additional safety information.
Strangulation Hazard: Keep the cord out of the baby's reach. Never place the camera or cords within three feet (one meter) of a crib.
Overheating Risk: Keep the camera clear of curtains, bedding, and other materials that could restrict airflow. Only use the Sami Camera with the supplied AC power adapter.
