Enabling the alarm:
Steps:
- Click on the settings gear at the bottom right of the live-view
- Turn on "Enable Alarm"
Alarm settings:
Note that SAMi's default alarm settings are optimized to look for rhythmic or continuous movement that lasts more than 15 seconds. If this is sounds like you, you likely can leave the movement threshold, alarm threshold, and sensitivity boost settings alone.
- To test this sit with the iOS device on the bed while running the app. Create movement in the style or range of movement and watch the green meter to the right of the live video screen.
- Movement threshold= amount of movement that is significant.
- Note - 95% of SAMi users do not need to change this setting
-
- If you really only want to alarm on very large movements, you can raise this threshold slightly
- If you're trying to pick up really small movements, you may lower this some, but
-
- How it works
- The green meter is showing the amount of movement
- The black arrow represents the movement threshold setting.
- If the green meter stays above the black arrow the red alarm meter will build up.
- If it is below the black arrow the red alarm meter will drop rapidly.
- This feature allows the app to ignore the smaller movements of sleep.
- If you are trying to capture/alarm on very small movements, you will want to use the sensitivity boost and possibly mount the camera much closer.
- Note - 95% of SAMi users do not need to change this setting
- Alarm threshold= the amount of time significant movement should persist before the alarm sounds.
- Sensitivity Boost
- changes the algorithm by slowing the speed at which that the red alarm meter drops when the green movement meter is below the movement threshold setting (black arrow)
- This has the affect of allowing SAMi to still alarm even if there are pauses in the movement.
- It also increases SAMi's sensitivity to smaller movements independent of the movement threshold.
- Most people should keep Sensitivity Boost set to 0% - only when monitoring very subtle or discontinuous movement do we recommend experimenting with this setting
- changes the algorithm by slowing the speed at which that the red alarm meter drops when the green movement meter is below the movement threshold setting (black arrow)
- Max Pause time prevents the alarm from staying in a paused state longer than the set time.
- If an alarm sounds and you press mute the alarm button will turn yellow and go into a two minute countdown mode.
- This is to prevent re-arming when you are in the midst of dealing with your situation.
- At anytime you can press the alarm button on the live video screen to re-arm.
- When in countdown mode the system will keep returning to the two minute clock if there is movement.
- Note - For some parents the concern was that their child could be restless and therefore might keep the alarm in a paused state.
- Border Size= a way to eliminate motion from consideration in the alarm algorithm.
- If there is a fan, or a room is shared, you can create a border that is smaller than the camera view.
- Only motion inside the border is considered by the app.
- Smart Edge= if on this will ignore movement that originates from outside the camera view.
- Useful if you come in to check on your child during sleep and do not want your motion to set off the alarm.
- Beep on camera fault= notifies you if the SAMi camera somehow gets disconnected or unplugged
- Beep on app not active= notifies you if something happens to disrupt the app. We do not run in background, so if the app is not active, there is no monitoring.
- Enable alarm schedule= way to eliminate unnecessary alarming during the day or evening hours before sleep.
- If you turn this on you can enter and start and stop time for the alarm system.
