When you’re using the SAMi App on your iPhone or iPad, it’s normal to receive phone calls, texts, or notifications. Fortunately, SAMi is designed to handle these interruptions intelligently, keeping monitoring active and recording uninterrupted whenever possible.

Just as importantly, the SAMi App is designed to stay open and running automatically. Even if your iOS device would normally go to sleep, SAMi prevents the device from sleeping or locking while monitoring is active, so the app will not close or pause unexpectedly on its own. However, in order to receive real-time alerts, the SAMi App must be open and actively running in the foreground. If the app is closed or you leave it to use another app, you will not receive alerts, but the SAMi Camera will continue recording in the background, and those recordings will transfer to your device the next time you open SAMi.

📞 Incoming Phone Calls

If you receive a phone call and answer it while SAMi is running:

• The SAMi App will temporarily pause monitoring and alerting during the call.

• The SAMi Camera continues recording the entire time.

• When the call ends, SAMi automatically resumes monitoring/alerting when the app is open.

Note: If you don’t answer the call, SAMi continues to run uninterrupted.

💬 Text Messages & Notifications

When a text or other notification comes in:

• Brief notification banners will not interrupt the SAMi App.

• If you leave the app (for example, to respond to a message), the app will pause temporarily. But:

  • The SAMi Camera continues recording in the background.

  • All recordings made during that time will transfer and appear in your event list when you return to the app.

• Reopen the SAMi App to continue monitoring and alerting.

Again, SAMi will stay open and active as long as you don’t manually leave the app. It is built to prevent your device from sleeping or locking during active use.

🎥 Will Recording Be Lost During Interruptions?

No. SAMi ensures that important recordings are never lost, even if the app is paused or closed temporarily.

• If you take a phone call, open another app, or step away:

  • The SAMi Camera keeps recording.

  • As soon as you return to the SAMi App, those recordings will sync to your device and show up as expected.

And don’t worry—SAMi keeps your device awake and prevents it from sleeping, so you won’t lose monitoring due to screen timeout or inactivity.

🛡️ How to Minimize Interruptions

To ensure the smoothest overnight experience, we recommend the following setup:

✅ Enable Do Not Disturb or Focus Mode to block alerts and calls.

✅ Enable Background App Refresh

(Settings > General > Background App Refresh > Turn ON for SAMi)

✅ Use Guided Access Mode

This Apple feature locks your device to the SAMi App so it can’t be closed accidentally.
