Yes — SAMi can sometimes be purchased using a Medicaid Waiver, but it is not covered by standard Medicaid or Medicare.
📍 State-Specific Support
If you’re located in Arkansas, Colorado, Indiana, Minnesota, Missouri, Upstate New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, or Wisconsin, please visit our SAMi Funding Guide.
Click “Medicaid Waiver” at the top (or scroll down), then select your state to find contact information for our local funding partner. They can help you begin the waiver process.
✅ What You Need to Know
1. SAMi is NOT covered by standard Medicaid or Medicare.
Only Medicaid Waiver programs may offer coverage for SAMi.
2. You must have a Medicaid Case Manager.
This can be through a third-party agency or directly with Medicaid.
Don’t have one? Try searching: “Medicaid Case Manager in [your state]” to get started.
3. You must be on a Medicaid Waiver.
If you are not already on a waiver, speak with your case manager to explore eligibility.
4. Not eligible for a waiver?
You may still qualify for funding through a private grant. We recommend applying through our partner:
5. Already on a waiver?
Talk to your case manager to find out if SAMi is covered under your specific waiver.
SAMi cannot determine your eligibility — only your case manager can confirm this.
🛒 How to Purchase with a Waiver
If SAMi is approved under your waiver, your case manager will need to work with a third party who can:
-
Purchase SAMi on your behalf, and
-
Accept the Medicaid Waiver as payment
SAMi does not accept Medicaid Waivers, Medicaid, or Medicare payments directly.
If your case management agency cannot facilitate the purchase, you’ll need to contact a local Durable Medical Equipment Supplier (DME) to see if they are willing to assist.
Please note: We do not have contracts with DMEs, so you will need to reach out to them individually.
