(Replacing a SAMi Router OR Switching from Home WiFi)
These instructions are for customers who already have a working SAMi-3 Camera system and are upgrading to the new SAMi Hub.
If your SAMi Camera is currently connected to a SAMi Router, follow the steps in: Replacing a SAMi Router (SAMi Router → SAMi Hub)
If your SAMi Camera is currently connected to your home WiFi, follow the steps in: Moving from Home WiFi to the SAMi Hub (Home WiFi → SAMi Hub)
Replacing a SAMi Router (SAMi Router → SAMi Hub)
If your camera was previously connected to a SAMi Router, follow these steps.
Step 1: Unplug the Old SAMi Router
Unplug your existing SAMi Router and set it aside.
Your camera light will turn red. This is normal.
Step 2: Plug in the SAMi Hub
Remove the SAMi Hub from the packaging.
Raise both antennas.
Attach the plug adapter and twist clockwise until it clicks.
Plug the power cable into the port labeled 5V⎓3A.
Plug into a wall outlet.
Step 3: Plug in the SAMi Camera
Plug the camera into power (if not already)
Wait up to 3 minutes for the camera light to turn green.
A green light means the camera has reconnected to the SAMi-5G network.
Open the SAMi App and confirm live view.
Step 4: Connect the SAMi Hub to Your Home WiFi (Required)
Now that the camera is back online, connect the Hub to your home WiFi.
While connected to the SAMi-5G WiFi network, open Safari or your preferred web browser.
In the address bar, enter 192.168.8.1
When prompted, enter the SAMi Hub admin password: sami19920801
Important
This admin password is NOT the same as the WiFi Password/Key. The WiFi Password/Key connects you to SAMi-5G. The admin password logs you into the Hub settings.
Step 5: Connect the SAMi Hub to your home WiFi using Repeater Mode
You will see a dashboard similar to one of the images above. Ignore everything except the section called Repeater.
Click on "Connect" or click on "Repeater," depending on what your image looks like.
A list of WiFi networks will load. Select your main home WiFi network. Be patient if you don't see if right away.
Enter your home WiFi password.
Click "Apply" or "Join" (If you cannot see the Apply button, tap outside the password field to close the keyboard.)
You will be prompted with a success message.
You have now successfuly setup your SAMi Hub and can begin monitoring!
Moving from Home WiFi to the SAMi Hub (Home WiFi → SAMi Hub)
If your camera was previously connected directly to your home WiFi (no SAMi Router), follow these steps.
Step 1: Plug in the SAMi Hub
Remove the SAMi Hub from the packaging.
Raise both antennas.
Plug the power cable into the port labeled 5V⎓3A.
Plug into a wall outlet.
Wait for the Hub to fully boot. You can confirm this once you see SAMi-5G in your WiFi settings but do not connect to the SAMi-5g WiFi network yet.
Step 2: Change SAMi to the SAMi-5G Network
Because your camera is currently connected to your home WiFi, it will not automatically switch to the SAMi Hub. To move it onto SAMi-5G, you must reset the camera and re-pair it.
2A) Remove the Camera from the SAMi App (if shown)
Skip this section and proceed to step 2B) below if your SAMi App opens to a screen that says “This app is designed to work with the SAMi-3 Network Camera” and shows setup options.
Open the SAMi App
Tap Settings (gear icon)
Go to Camera Settings → Camera Status
Tap Remove (ignore any error message)
Force quit the SAMi App
2B) Reset the SAMi Camera
Important: The camera should remain plugged into power for this reset.
-
Unplug any Ethernet cable from the camera
Nothing should be plugged into the camera’s Ethernet port during reset or pairing.
Find the Reset pinhole on the side of the camera.
Use a paperclip to press and release the reset button (do not hold).
-
Watch the camera power light. A proper reset requires this exact sequence:
Light turns OFF
Then RED
Then GREEN (this can take a few minutes)
Step 3: Connect Your Apple Device to SAMi-5G
Before pairing the camera, your iPhone or iPad must be connected to the SAMi Hub network.
Go to Settings → Wi-Fi
Select SAMi-5G
Enter the WiFi Key: 19920801
-
If your Apple device doesn't accept the WiFi password:
Make sure you are entering it correctly
If you confirm it waas entered correctly, try resetting your network settings: go to Settings > General > Transfer or Reset [Device] > Reset > Reset Network Settings
If you get a notification that says "The Wi-Fi network "SAMi-5G" does not appear to be connected to the internet, click "Keep Trying Wi-Fi". We will connect it to WiFi in the steps below!
Important
Scroll to the bottom of the Wi-Fi settings page and set:
Ask to Join Networks → Ask
Why this matters
If this setting is not changed, your Apple device may automatically reconnect to your home WiFi (often overnight), which can disconnect you from the SAMi Camera.
Once your device shows it is connected to SAMi-5G, continue below.
Step 4: Re-pair the Camera to SAMi-5G
Confirm your iPhone/iPad is still connected to the "SAMi-5G" WiFi network
Open the SAMi App
Follow the on-screen prompts to set up the camera
Confirm live view loads and the camera power light stays green
Next, we'll make your SAMi Hub internet-enabled.
Step 5: Connect the SAMi Hub to Your Home WiFi (Required)
While still connected to the SAMi-5G WiFi network, open Safari or your preferred web browser.
Step 6: Connect the SAMi Hub to your home WiFi using Repeater Mode
You will see a dashboard similar to one of the images above. Ignore everything except the section called Repeater.
Click on "Connect" or click on "Repeater," depending on what your image looks like.
A list of WiFi networks will load. Select your main home WiFi network. Be patient if you don't see if right away.
Enter your home WiFi password.
Click "Apply" or "Join" (If you cannot see the Apply button, tap outside the password field to close the keyboard.)
You will be prompted with a success message. Ignore any messages about a VPN. You can close out this tab and begin monitoring.
You have now successfully set up your SAMi Hub and can begin monitoring!
